Precise materials are at the heart of Montessori education. Products are designed so that children can focus, gain mastery, and flourish.
Purchased this for my son late last year. He enjoys the colorful strings more than coordinating the pieces but he may still be a bit young to fully appreciate the activity. This is great for enhancing eye-hand coordination and I find myself turning to this activity more so as he’s getting older. It’s something we can do together. Even if your child is too young to appreciate the motor skills required, they’ll definitely enjoy the colorful strings, which are thick like shoestrings and enjoy the colorful animal illustrations. The pieces are made with sturdy wood and that puts me at ease as I know the pieces won’t break off in my son’s mouth when he decides to bite on them as he does with things when he’s teething. I would recommend this as an effective developmental toy!
I purchased this for my granddaughter who just turned two. At this point, her fine motor skills just allow her to try to put the laces through the holes. There is plenty of time for continued development over the years. My 4 year old grandson has thoroughly enjoyed them. The colors are bright, product is well made and I see my grandbabies playing with them for years to come. As a former preschool teacher, I love this product!
I bought these for my four year old and she honestly loves them! I had gotten some from target dollar spot a while ago and they were cardboard and started to bend and break. These are sturdy, come with lots of different clothes, and are perfect for quiet time while her little twin siblings are sleeping! She actually said “thank you so much mom!” When I handed it to her she was very excited. I think the quality exceeds the price— This is not a paid review and not sponsored in any way— just glad to find an affordable product that’s good quality to keep my girl’s hands busy!
My 4 year old granddaughter has autism and is doing OT. She loves doing these with me (I have to hold the 2 pieces together for her to get started), but she can thread the laces and mix/match the pieces together however she wants. I usually have to take them apart for her. But every time she puts them together she does it a little bit different so it is like a new experience every time. The pieces are thick and the laces are plenty long for any pattern.
Our daughter's eye Dr. recommended we get her some sewing cards for Vision Therapy at home. Poking the strings in and out of the holes works on depth perception and other areas that her eyes are weak in. After reviewing several sewing cards I chose these because they were affordable, small in size for easy storage, and sturdy. There is also an added challenge to the cards because you have to "sew" the top of the card to the bottom. This step takes some coordination but is great for an added challenge. My daughter is 7 so these cards are perfect for her. Younger ages may require some help from the parent.
